Colorado Adult Driver Education (Recommended Online Course)
Colorado does not require a full driver education course for adults — but the rules depend on your age. Adults 18 and 19, and applicants 20 and under, must complete a 4-hour prequalification driver awareness program before an instruction permit. Applicants 21 and older are not required to take driver education or the awareness program — they just pass the DMV knowledge, vision, and driving tests. This recommended DriversEd.com online course is a supplemental study tool; it is NOT the 4-hour prequalification awareness program and is NOT a state-approved Colorado driver education course. It helps you build essential driving skills and confidence, and may earn an insurance discount.
Who Is This Course For?
Colorado adults preparing for the DMV knowledge and driving tests who want a supplemental, recommended online driver education course. This course is not the 4-hour prequalification awareness program required for ages 18–20, and is not required for applicants 21 and older.
Course Overview
Colorado's adult licensing path depends on age. Applicants 18, 19, and 20 must complete a 4-hour prequalification driver awareness program before an instruction permit; adults 21 and older are not required to take driver education or the awareness program. All adult applicants must pass the DMV knowledge test (25 questions, 80% to pass — 20 correct), a vision test, and the driving test to receive a full, unrestricted Colorado driver's license.
This recommended DriversEd.com course is a supplemental study tool — it is NOT the 4-hour prequalification awareness program required for ages 18–20, and it is not a state-approved Colorado driver education course. It features clear language, fresh graphics, fun videos, and interactive 3-D animations and is 100% online and self-paced on any device. Completing it does not waive any DMV requirement — you must still complete the required awareness program (if 18–20) and pass the knowledge, vision, and driving tests.
You may qualify for an auto insurance discount with eligible auto insurance companies. The discount is not guaranteed — ask your insurance agent for details. This is a recommended supplemental course, not a state-approved Colorado driver education program and not the 4-hour prequalification awareness program.
