Louisiana Adult Driver Education (Recommended Online Course)

Louisiana does not require adult driver education. Adults 18 and older must pass the OMV knowledge test (40 questions, 80% to pass — 32 correct), a vision test, and the road test to receive a full, unrestricted Louisiana driver's license. This recommended online course is a supplemental study tool that helps you build the skills and knowledge to pass the tests. It is not a state-approved program and is not required.

The course features clear language, fresh graphics, fun videos, and interactive 3-D animations that keep you engaged and help you retain what you learn. It is 100% online and self-paced on any device. Completing it does not waive any OMV requirement — you must still pass the knowledge, vision, and road tests.

You may qualify for an auto insurance discount with eligible auto insurance companies. The discount is not guaranteed — ask your insurance agent for details. This is a recommended supplemental course, not a state-approved Louisiana driver education program.

Louisiana requires teens to complete a 38-hour driver education course (30 classroom hours plus 8 behind-the-wheel hours) and obtain a Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) card before a learner's permit at 15 — steps adults 18 and older do not have to complete. Adults skip the TIP card, the 38-hour course, the 50-hour supervised log (15 at night), and the intermediate license stage, and apply directly for a full Louisiana license by passing the OMV knowledge, vision, and road tests.
