Hold your learner's permit for at least 6 months and log 40 hours of supervised driving (or 30 hours if you complete a Driver Skills Development Program) with a licensed adult 21 or older.
After holding your permit for 6 months and completing all requirements, pass the RMV road test to receive your Junior Operator License at 16 years, 6 months. You may not drive between 12:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. and may carry no passengers under 18 (except family) for the first 6 months.
Your full, unrestricted Massachusetts driver license is issued at 18 — or earlier after holding the JOL for at least 12 months with a clean record (minimum 17).
