At 15, pass the Maine BMV knowledge test — 30 questions, 80% to pass (24 correct) — and a vision test to receive your learner's permit. A parent or guardian must consent if you are under 18.
Hold your learner's permit for at least 6 months and log 70 hours of supervised driving — including 10 hours at night — with a licensed adult 20 or older.
After holding your permit for 6 months, pass the Maine road test to receive your provisional license at 16. For the first 9 months you may not drive between midnight and 5 a.m. and may not carry passengers (except immediate family), with limited exceptions.
After holding your provisional license for at least 9 months with a clean record (minimum 16 years, 9 months), receive your full Maine driver license.
