How to Get a Nebraska Driver's License
From your first learner's permit to a full Nebraska driver's license, here's the general path most Nebraska drivers follow. Always verify the latest requirements with Nebraska DMV. Tap any step to expand the details.
At 15, pass the Nebraska DMV knowledge test — 25 questions, 80% to pass (20 correct) — and a vision test to receive your Learner's Permit (LPD). A parent or guardian must consent if you are under 18.
Hold your LPD for at least 6 months and log 50 hours of supervised driving — including 10 hours at night — with a licensed adult 21 or older. Completing a state-approved safety course waives the 50-hour requirement.
After holding your LPD for 6 months, pass the driving test to receive your Provisional Operator's Permit (POP) at 16. You may drive unsupervised from 6 a.m. to midnight and may carry no more than one passenger under 19 (non-family) for the first 6 months.
After holding your POP for at least 12 months with a clean record (minimum 17) — or at 18 — receive your full, unrestricted Nebraska driver license.

Permit holders who don't complete a course must log 50 hours of supervised driving — including 10 hours at night — and hold the LPD for at least 6 months before the POP at 16.
