At 15, enroll in a Wisconsin-approved driver education course and pass the knowledge, sign, and vision tests — 50 questions, 80% to pass (40 correct) — to receive your instruction permit (temps). An adult sponsor must sign.
Hold your instruction permit for at least 6 months (violation free) and log 50 hours of supervised driving — including 10 hours at night — with a licensed adult.
After holding your permit for 6 months and completing driver education, pass the driving skills test to receive your probationary license at 16. For the first 9 months you may drive 5 a.m.–midnight only and may carry only one passenger (immediate family excepted).
After holding your probationary license for at least 9 months with a clean record (minimum 16 years, 9 months), the GDL restrictions lift; a fully unrestricted license follows at 18.
